How do we do this? By reducing the student teacher ratio by hiring additional teachers. Foundation funds pay for additional teachers the District could not otherwise afford. All funds raised by the Foundation are used to support teaching positions and reduce class size. The Foundation has successfully placed teachers in classrooms every year since 1993.
Support from the Foundation is a critical component of the school district’s ability to lower class sizes in the core curriculum subjects and has been critical to the district’s ability to meet community expectations for the education of our students. It has kept us afloat during periods of severe downsizing. As we look optimistically toward a period of building back, Foundation efforts will continue to be essential in preparing our children for the highly competitive and evolving world ahead.

Achievements and Goals
Last year the Foundation had its most successful year ever and raised over $2.1 million dollars! With the generous support of the community we were able to:
- keep all of our existing teaching positions;
- put additional teachers back into classrooms;
- have smaller class sizes at all grade levels;
- bring electives back to both of our high schools;
- add sections of some of our most popular classes;
- increase reading and math specialist support in all of the elementary schools district-wide.
This year's fundraising goal is $2.2 million. This will enable the district to maintain the gains from last years fundraising effort, provide a long-awaited opportunity to build back some of what we’ve eliminated in recent years, and to shift our program focus from survival to enhancement.
Parents, local businesses, volunteers and the community at large are all essential to maintain the "Excellence in Education" Lake Oswego schools are noted for. Through the Foundation’s many fundraising efforts, the district can continue our tradition of academic excellence and provide a world-class education for our children.
Contributions to the Foundation are exempt from federal income tax under section 170c of the Internal Revenue Code. |
