Lake Oswego School District Foundation President
This spring, Lake Oswego School District Foundation will commence its 16th campaign to raise money for teachers in the district. Our work has never been more important. Last year, despite economic turmoil, and, for many, a rapid and unexpected loss of financial security, we still raised over $1.6 million. This allowed the Lake Oswego School District to rehire more than 23 teachers, keeping class sizes low in the elementary grades, and electives rich for our older students.
One fact about the economy underscores why families in Lake Oswego give to the Foundation: in this recession, adults with a bachelor degree or higher experienced half the rate of unemployment of adults who achieved a high school education or less. Education is the single most important factor determining the economic future of our children.
The Foundation’s goal this year is to raise $1.8 million. This is achievable, in part, because almost two-thirds of families in the district donate to the Foundation. As always, more than 95% of money donated will be spent directly on teachers salaries. Our children count on us to prepare them for the future. We count on you to give again this year.
Sincerely, |
