This year's event, titled “History in the Making - educating our kids today for their bright futures" will feature keynote speaker Kerry Tymchuk, the Executive Director of the Oregon Historical Society (OHS). “The annual luncheon kicks off the start of our annual campaign and often is a sold out event. We are excited to welcome Mr. Tymchuk who is not only a “Jeopardy” champion, but a champion in his service to our country. We appreciate his help in recognizing important role the Lake Oswego School District plays in our children’s lives,” said Kevin Robertson, current LOSDF Board President.
A native of Reedsport, Tymchuk is a fifth generation Oregonian. He is a graduate of Willamette University and Willamette University School of Law. Prior to assuming the helm at OHS in April 2011, Tymchuk earned a reputation as one of Oregon's most respected public servants. His career included service as a Marion County Deputy District Attorney, Legal Counsel to U.S. Congressman Denny Smith, Director of Speechwriting to U.S. Secretary of Labor Elizabeth Dole, Director of Speechwriting and Legal Counsel to U.S. Senator Bob Dole, and Oregon Chief of Staff to U.S. Senator Gordon Smith.
Tymhcuk co-authored the Doles in the writing of our books, and also co-authored the autobiographies of Oregon business icons Gert Boyle, Harry Merlo, and Al Reser. A four-time champion on the popular television game show "Jeopardy," Tymchuk also serves as Chairman of the Board of Special Olympics Oregon, as well as serving as a member of the Willamette University Board of Trustees. He and his wife, Becky, reside in Beaverton, and are the parents of two children. Founded in 1898, OHS is the designated steward of Oregon's history. It houses a world-class research library and the Oregon History Museum. Additional guest speakers will include a student from Lakeridge High School and Lake Oswego High School.
Luncheon guests will have a chance to participate in a raffle for a variety of prizes. Tickets are $35 each or $280 for a table of eight. Please call 503-534-2106 for reservations. |
